Airport & Restaurant Reviews
Since we're always on the lookout for fun airports and restaurants to fly into, we thought we'd start our own review of the places we've visited.  Let us know if you would like additional information to be included, or if you have recommendations of places we should visit (and review) on this page!

Peter Chu's Skyroom August 2005 Moderate Yes No ôôô
Review:
This Chinese restaurant is located in the airport itself on the second floor (you'll find an elevator inside) and is open for lunch and dinner.  The food is fairly authentic and tasty, and you get quite a bit (fried wonton and egg-roll appetizers, soup, and your main entree) for your money.  The restaurant's large bay windows overlook the runway, so you can watch planes take off and land. More reviews.
Scenic Factor:
The flight to Redding from Lincoln is fairly scenic.  You pass several other small airports, and we also saw several military aircraft as we flew by one of them.

Final Comments:
Overall, this restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere, quick and friendly service, and good Chinese food.  Many pilots rave about this place!

Nancy's Airport Cafe July 2005 Inexpensive Yes No ôôô
Review:
This is an oldie but goodie located right off the runway (within walking distance).  If you're in the mood for a greasy spoon at a decent price, this is one of our favorites (truckers love it, too).  They're open for breakfast and lunch, and offer traditional breakfast fare such as eggs, omelets, pancakes, hash browns, and sausage/bacon.  For lunch, they have a variety of sandwiches, burgers, etc.  Find more reviews of Nancy's here
Scenic Factor:
As you fly from Lincoln (KLHM) to Willows, you'll go right over the Sutter Buttes.  You'll also soar over some agricultural plots.  Some pictures below...

Final Comments:
This somewhat cramped diner is almost always full of people, so don't be surprised if you have to wait a few minutes to be seated.  The service is quick yet friendly, and the overall atmosphere has a family feel to it (it's also fun how they decorate with aviation-themed pictures).  We designated this cafe as not being dog-friendly because the tight quarters would probably make it difficult to bring a dog inside (we've never brought our dog there, so haven't asked if they allow them).  It's a favorite spot to bring friends and family on a first flight; it's a quick jaunt from Lincoln, has some nice scenery to take in, and offers a great meal at a reasonable cost.

The Lickskillet Cafe June 2005 Inexpensive Yes Yes! ôôô
Review:
This is a charming little restaurant cafe that offers both indoor and outdoor patio seating.  Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (although you should check their website before visiting since their hours are seasonal), we stopped by with our Golden Retriever, Maverick, for a pleasant lunch on a hot day.  We sat outside at a table sheltered by a patio umbrella, and as soon as we were seated, our friendly waitress immediately served a bowl of cold water to Maverick!  They have soup, salad, sandwiches, etc.  They also have a unique potato salad that was pretty tasty.  It's pleasant to sit outside and enjoy the country style garden.  We will definitely return!  Check out their hours, menu, etc. here.
Scenic Factor:
The flight to Colombia is fairly scenic, but the unique part of the trip is that once you land at the airport, you must hike a couple miles to get into town (just follow the signs).  The first part of the hike (directly from the airport) is a very scenic little trail, and although the overall trek is quite easy, there is a small stretch towards the end that is slightly more treacherous (some downhill/uphill portions that could be difficult if you don't have hiking shoes on).  Keep walking until you see the old-style buildings on the right that allow pedestrian traffic only; head over there and check out the tourist area of town.  Walk through this section and take a right at State Street to find the Lickskillet.

Final Comments:
Colombia is a neat little town with roots in gold mining.  You could easily spend the day touring the Colombia museum and other local exhibits that depict Colombia history, have breakfast/lunch in either the Lickskillet or other restaurants, try your hand at gold-panning, and visit the old-fashioned candy/ice-cream shops.  It's a good place to bring the kids along, and it's entertaining to see the local folks dressed in traditional garb from the old days.  Click here for a more detailed version of things to do at Colombia.

Corsair Coffee Shop February 2004 Inexpensive NO - cash only No ôô1/2
Review:
This is a diner-style restaurant located right off the runway.  Be sure to bring cash, as they don't accept credit cards (this surprised us).  They serve breakfast and lunch (the breakfast burrito was quite good).  The prices are low and the service was pretty good as well.  We need to go back so we can post a more recent review (reviews seemed inconsistent here).  It's definitely on our list of places to return to, as the flight to Pine Mountain is beautiful.
Scenic Factor:
It is a very scenic flight to this airport.  You'll see lots of mountains, rivers, and meandering streams.  We went in the winter, so also got some nice pictures of the snow-capped mountains.

Final Comments:
As mentioned, we flew to this airport during the winter, and it was a beautiful trip.  Green, lush mountains with several streams running through them coupled with the clean mountain air made for a very enjoyable flight.
